GOD IN THE NEWS
Well it seems that there is some exciting news this week. Rick Warren author of “Purpose Driven Life” and “Purpose Driven Church” has teamed up with Readers Digest Association and will be launching a new program in early 2009. The new network, the “Purpose Driven Connection”, will be published in a variety of high-tech and high-touch formats worldwide. Three formats for the Purpose Driven Connection have been announced so far, and are slated to be introduced in early 2009. They include a quarterly magazine titled, “Purpose Driven Connection”, small group multimedia materials for a national “40 Days of Love” emphasis, and a state-of-the-art “Purpose Driven Connection” social networking website. According to Christian Today, the magazine, “Purpose Driven Connection” will launch first and serve as the main format to connect all of the others. It will begin by featuring some of the best known Christian authors today and also include an Interview with President-elect Obama conducted by Rick Warren. I, for one, am very excited about this news. I have went through the Purpose Driven Life both on my own and through my church. I have always wanted more and am excited to see this happening. Thank you Mr. Warren for listening to the Lord and answering the cries of the people who are hungry for God’s Word. As I know more I will pass it on.
Mr Varndell, one of the key initiators of the “Keeping Faith in Development” conference in Cambridge, brought together such groups as Christian Aid, Islamic Relief and World Jewish Relief among other faith charities to debate how faith-based charities should work with people of other religions. Mr. Varndell stated, “We will only end world poverty by working with people who have faiths other than our own – so let’s do it right.” Seems this issue came to the front after the murder of Gayle Williams in October of this year. She was working in Afghanistan. Seems the Taliban claimed responsibility claiming they had her executed for spreading the Christian faith. From what I can tell they are advocating that each faith work closely together along side each other and keep the local government informed as to what they are intending. I’m not sure what to think of this. I agree that everyone working together is a good thing but I would want to know more about Mr. Varndell and what he is actually trying doing. Something don’t feel quite right to me.
Flood Victims line up in Brazil
Around 1.5 million people have been affected by this catastrophe. The death toll has reached 116 in this flood-ravaged area of Brazil. The rain has been tremendous the last 2 months with 35 inches of rain in November alone. It has left around 80,000 people homeless. To complicate matters there is an outbreak of a water-borne disease which officials are investigating. Operation Blessing International, The Salvation Army and a number of local churches have partnered to help the flood victims.
Well, this is just a summary of a very small portion of Christian news around the globe this week. We will see more of this in the coming weeks I am sure.

I have the book Purpose Driven Life. It is my favorite. I read it all the time. It is good to see that he is doing even more work. Thanks for letting me know.
I read half of the Purpose Driven Life and was too bored to finish it. Warren seems like a friendly and well-meaning fellow, but I just don’t get what makes him special.
