SAUL’S CONVERSION (DAMASCUS ROAD EXPERIENCE cont.)

Published by cathycouey at 9:14 am under Conversion Edit This

Prayer Request Box

I am so excited about Saul and his conversion on the road to Damascus.  Many of you are probably wondering why I continue to call him Saul so I will tell you the answer.  All you had to do was ask.  See Paul did not receive his name change until Acts 13 so at this point he is still Saul.  Please note that his change of name occurred once he began his ministry.  We will talk more about that at a later date.  for now let’s go back to where we left Saul yesterday.  He had been blinded by the light of Jesus and was being led on into Damascus.

Acts 9:9 And he was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank. (NKJV)

Have you ever tried to go 3 days without eating or drinking?  It does not say whether or not he slept but I would imagine that he probably did not.  Think about what he has just gone through, he is suddenly blind and has been visited by the Son of God Himself.  I believe that I might be just a little excited don’t you?  Or would I be?  I remember my own conversion experience which was just as exciting for me but I did not sacrifice as Saul did.  It could be that Saul needed that time to reflect on his own condition and to humble himself before the Lord.

Speaking from personal experience, it is quite easy to get so caught up in something that you do not eat, drink, or sleep.  I did it for days on end many times during my drug days.   I have felt convicted many times by the Lord that I have not fasted for Him as I did for my “crack”.  Does that mean that I do not love the Lord?  No, that is not what it means.  It means that I am still in the flesh way too much.  Doing these posts every day really helps to bring out of my flesh and into the spirit so I am afraid you will be stuck with me if for no other reason than it helps both of us.

So what was Saul thinking all that time?  If you remember Saul had been taught by the greatest Hebrew teacher of the day so he had no need of being taught the scripture.  What he needed during that time was to be shown how the scripture had been fulfilled in Jesus Christ.  I am pretty sure that is part of what he was learning during the 3 days that he sat waiting.

Acts 22:3 “I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers’ law, and was zealous toward God as you all are today. (NKJV)

Knowing the scripture does not make one a Christian as we can see from Saul’s example.  We must put legs on our knowledge and act in accordance to what we know.  That is what we will be held accountable for on Judgment day.  Faith saves us and works demonstrates our salvation.  It takes both.  Tomorrow we will see what happens next and does Saul get his sight back.  Sounds like a “soap opera” doesn’t it?  The Word of God is full of nail biting stories if you look for them.  I know that I started in Judges not long after I was saved and I could not put the Bible down .  I read as much as 10-15 chapters a day because I just had to see what happened next.  I did not slow down till I got to Job, well except I must confess I did skip all those begats in 1&2 Chronicles.

Now as promised earlier we have a prayer request and so here is some encouragement for you.  Jesus knows what it is like to be alone in a crowd.  On the cross He was surrounded by people who were mocking and torturing Him.  God Himself turned His back on His only Son.  The beauty here is that Jesus understands how we feel when we are feeling alone and misunderstood.  We feel that no one can relate but He can.  He loves us so much and He wants us to turn to Him be cause he will comfort us.

Our second prayer request for today is for a premature baby who weighed in at 1 lb 11 oz. at birth.  this little guy is a fighter and we need to stand in the gap for him.

Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)

5 But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.

There is something for both of you in this verse.  We love you and are praying for you.
