THE DAMASCUS ROAD EXPERIENCE (LIKE PAUL WE ALL HAVE ONE) pt3

Published by cathycouey at 10:07 am under Conversion Edit This

Acts 9:6-8 (NKJV)  6 So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”
Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
7 And the men who journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice
but seeing no one. 8 Then Saul arose from the ground, and when his eyes
were opened he saw no one. But they led him by the hand and brought him into Damascus.

I want to look a little more at these verses because there is so much more in them.  Saul has just been stopped dead in his tracks by Jesus.  He has been confronted by the Lord.  I wonder what was going through his mind at this point.  He has certainly been shown the error of his ways.  Though it may appear as if he had no choice Saul certainly had to make a choice right here right now.  “Do I believe that this is Jesus whom I have been persecuting?”  “I do believe He is Who He says He is.”  “What do I do now that I believe?”  This is where Saul finds his voice and says aloud, “Lord, what do You want me to do?”

What do we do when confronted by Jesus as to the error of our ways?  Do we like Saul say, “What now Lord?”  Or do we continue our journey as before?  Saul was quick to decide to do whatever the Lord wanted.  Jesus told him to get up, go to Damascus and wait for further instructions.  That is a whole study in itself about waiting for instructions from the Lord.

Let’s talk for a minute about the other men who were there with Saul. They too, were stopped in their tracks. They too, heard the voice.  They however could not tell what was being said by Jesus.  They were looking for a real person.  They were in the “flesh” instead of the “spirit”.  They knew something miraculous had just happened but they were trying to see what it was with their natural eyes.  They were blinded in their spiritual eyes because of their desire to see in the natural whereas Saul was blinded in his natural eyes but could see quite well in his spiritual eyes.  Now they did not desert Saul but instead led him to Damascus.  They were probably still trying to figure it all out when they finally arrived.

I know there are many times that I am too busy trying to figure out what just happened to truly see the miracle in front of my face.  If you think about your own conversion for a minute I am sure you will realize that there were others around you who could see the change in you but could not figure out what just happened.  It is impossible to be in the “spirit” when you are stuck in the “flesh”.

Well, tomorrow we will go to Damascus and find out what happened next.  I am getting real excited to find out the “rest of the story” aren’t you?
