SIN IS:
There are many lists of various sins in the Bible. God has clearly told us what sin is. Sin is doing anything that is not right or unrighteousness in God’s sight. Have you ever looked at these lists of sin? They are unreal. How can God expect us to live a life without sinning? Have you ever tried to live a perfect life? Jesus did it and we all want to be like Jesus don’t we? So in our effort to be like Him we attempt to live the perfect life. Here are a couple of lists I have found just to give you an idea of what a difficult task we have set before ourselves.
Romans 1:28-32 (NKJV) 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers (gossipers is used in one version), 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
Galatians 5:19-21 (NKJV) 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
These are just two of the lists I’ve found. Now can you avoid all of those things all of the time? Sure some of them look easy like “murders”. If you remember our Lord said, “21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the judgment.’ 22 But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, ‘Raca!’ shall be in danger of the council. But whoever says, ‘You fool!’ shall be in danger of hell fire.” Matthew 5:20-22 (NKJV)
Have you read Proverbs? It is full of do’s and don’ts. How in the world can we ever live up to what God expects from us? Are you ready for the shocking news? WE CAN’T DO IT.
YOU SAY: “What do you mean we can’t do it? Of course we can, we have to, God says we must be Holy just as He is Holy. Cathy, we have to do it.”
I SAY: “We can’t do it.”
YOU SAY: “But we have to. God said I can do all things through Christ so I must be able to live a sin free life.”
I SAY: “No you can’t.”
YOU SAY: “Why not?”
I SAY: “Bcause YOU can not do it.”
YOU SAY: “What do you mean, I can not do it?”
I SAY: “You can not do it but Jesus CAN AND WILL.”
Now I’m sure I might have lost you there for a minute but bear with me. See so many of us are trying to live a sin free life so that we can please God. That is the problem. We are trying to do it ouself. That is not why Jesus came. He came and died for our sins so that whoever believed in Him would have everlasting life. The key to the whole Christian life is to allow Jesus to live again in your body and let Him be in control in stead of you trying to do things. Try thinking about it like having 2 personalities struggleing for controll of the same body. One of them is you and the other is the Holy Spirit. Now the Holy Spirit is never aggressive enough to take controll away from you. You have to give it to Him. If you give Him control Hecan and will live the life of Christ in your body. You sin every time you take control away from Him. That is the difference between walking in the spirit and walking in the flesh. It takes practice to always walk in the spirit. That might be where the term “practicing Christianity” came from. We are practicing allowing Christ.
Now while you are thinking about that I want you to meet someone who is very special. You think you have it bad. Let her tell you her story. Her name is Thess. Read her story and then let her and I both know what you think.
