HINDRANCES TO GOD (WHY DON’T GOD ANSWER ME?)

Published by cathycouey at 8:29 am under Bible Studies Edit This

As Christians we all seek God’s will in our lives.  There are many times that we just can not hear what God is saying to us.  We ask ourselves why?  Doesn’t God love me anymore or is He too busy to hear me or what?  We always blame it on God when we should be looking at ourselves instead.  God would love to reveal His will to us however there is a barrier in place.  Could it be possible that there is something in our own life that is creating this inability to know God’s will and hear Him?

Many times we go ahead with our plans without listening for His will.  We think our plan is so wonderful that God will just want to go along with it.  That, my friends, is self-will.  It is also “thinking more highly of our self than we ought”.  Romans 12:3  “For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.”  When caught up in self will we try to justify our actions with ideas such as “God understands”.  Anything that begins with self is nothing short of idol worship.  You have replaced the God Almighty with your self on the throne.  Isn’t that what got Satan kicked out of heaven?

Another hindrance to hearing God’s will is hearing everyone else’s will instead.  We call that the influence of others.  We are to seek Godly counsel in our lives but are we looking to Godly people or are we looking to those who will tell us what we want to hear.  Sometimes godly advice is hard to swallow.  Believe me when I tell you that you are not always going to want to hear Godly counsel.  I have 2 pastor friends who would be happy to confirm the times I did not want to hear what God was telling me through them.  I preferred instead to listen to my friends who told me what I wanted to hear.  I have always regretted those decisions.

A third hindrance to hearing the Lord is sin.  Sin in our lives will keep us from being able to hear the voice of God when He speaks.  If you know you are sinning you must repent first.  If you are not aware of the sin then ask God to reveal it to you.  He does hear and answer that one.  The key to this is admitting the sin.  If you refuse to see it as sin then you are further hindering the work of God in your life and are quenching the Holy Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 5:19 KJVR)  “Quench not the Spirit.”  Quenching the Spirit is the same as tuning Him out or refusing to listen.

Are you too distracted to hear God’s voice?  That would be a fourth hindrance to receiving the will of God.  Are you so busy in your life with other things and people that you do not take time to sit and listen to God?  Have you allowed the cares of this world to get in and distract you from God?  Jesus separated Himself from others frequently to talk with God.  Should we do any less.

God wants very much to give you His will in your life.  It is almost always something that we are doing which prevents that from taking place.  Take a look today and see if you are allowing one of these hindrances into your walk with God and if you are boot it out immediately.  I know I am.

Nice blog. I live by the “Let go and let God” mantra. Very inspirational here.
